Let me guess…

✄ You're struggling to piece together patternmaking knowledge from books and mini-courses and you wish you could find everything you need to know in one place.

✄ You've tried to learn patternmaking from the traditional fashion world but have found it dismissive and avoidant of fitting clothes on bodies that aren't straight, small sizes.

✄ You're not in a place where you can drop everything to go back to school to learn patternmaking.

✄ You can't find good information on how to grade patterns for a wide size-range, let alone how to grade them properly in the first place.

✄ Fitting and adjusting patterns feels like a mystery and requires consulting books and polling others who give you conflicting advice.

✄ You have a dream of starting your own brand or sewing pattern business but you haven't found anyone to teach you what you need to make it happen.

✄ You are READY to trade "trial and error" for a clear roadmap to making the sewing patterns you dream of.

Imagine if you…

✨ Had a crystal clear roadmap to draft and grade your own professional-quality sewing patterns

✨ Could see a garment in a store, on a runway, or on the internet and know exactly how you could recreate it in any size

✨ Understood exactly how to adapt and grade patterns for bodies of all sizes and shapes

✨ Could develop a collection of sewing patterns that you feel proud of and that earn you passive income as digital products

✨ Had in-demand skills as a digital patternmaker that would allow you to work from anywhere with complete location freedom

✨ Could feel like an artist, creating fluently with fabric, with all the tools and resources you need to turn your garment visions into reality

Does this sound familiar?

If you’re here, I bet you’ve…

Hi, I’m Victoria!

Your patternmaking teacher

I completed the Master course in patternmaking and tailoring at Istituto di Moda Burgo, one of the the top fashion schools in Italy.

I've worked with hundreds of students to develop made-to-measure patterns for their dream designs. This has exposed me to an incredible array of different design and troubleshooting scenarios. I've observed patterns in the patterns (pun intended) that have allowed me to develop my own methods and formulas for pattern drafting.

That's why I can say with conviction that the method I teach in CPMG will get you closer to your dream designs faster than any other course or textbook on patterndrafting out there.

I worked as a patternmaker for Violette Field Threads, a sewing pattern company that offers designs in four size ranges (women, tween, children, and baby). I founded my own sewing pattern brand, Erbaccia Pattern Studio.

Before becoming a patternmaker, I was an organic farmer in Montana for nearly a decade, where I raised sheep and veggies, taught field-to-fiber Indigo dyeing classes, and was a founding member of Triple Divide Seed Coop.

The organic farming community I was a part of was always generously sharing knowledge and resources with one another. So, imagine my shock when I went from that world to the competitive, elitist, and exclusive fashion world! I’ve vowed to dedicate myself to mastering patternmaking skills and sharing them widely, generously, and inclusively.

And just between me and you: there’s never been a better time to be a patternmaker. We can work digitally from anywhere in the world, and change peoples’ lives with our designs. The world of inclusive fashion is rapidly growing, and now is the time to learn what you need know and hit the ground running!

Hi, I’m Jess!

Your patternmaking mentor

I’m a sewing pattern designer, freelance pattern maker and grader, and someone who loves to sew clothes!

In January of 2023, I took a leap of faith and enrolled in Victoria’s Confident Patternmaking course. Just a few months later, I launched my very first PDF sewing pattern, the Tapioca Trousers!

With Victoria’s guidance, I became a full time pattern designer, freelance patternmaker and grader, and a mentor to folks just like you who are starting out on their patternmaking journey.

I’m passionate about making sewing and designing clothes more accessible to anyone who’s interested in learning. Whether you just want to design clothes for yourself or you want to start your own pattern line, you’re in the right place. I truly believe that with hard work and the right guidance, you hold the skills to make all your pattern making dreams come true.

“Oh my goodness... This class is seriously AMAZING! I'm learning so much!! It's so fun watching the 2D computer work actually translate to 3D physical form.”

@k.rid_makes

“It feels like my future is so bright because of these skills and this class.”

@natdellas

“I would have been so lost without Victoria's expert guidance! I feel like it was just fate, this has been exactly what I needed. It's been perfect.”

Graduates of Confident Patternmaking…

“Victoria put in a lot of time and energy in the calls and the check ups in between. I felt she was very approachable. I didn’t really feel the “teacher-student” dynamic that I maybe expected. It felt more like consulting a very skilled friend.”

@made.to.fit.humans

“I have realized just how fast it will eventually become to draft patterns in Illustrator as opposed to on paper. It is opening up a whole set of opportunities. I really do feel I could be drafting anything for anyone in the future.”

@littlebitsoflot

Here’s what they’re saying!

Have gone on to create beautiful, size inclusive sewing patterns. For some, patternmaking and grading has even replaced their traditional jobs!

If you dream of designing clothes for yourself or you want to start your own pattern line, this is for you. With hard work and the right guidance, you hold the skills to make all your pattern making dreams a reality.

“Illustrator was a big block for me + it's felt huge to feel like I could adapt really quickly to using it as a tool. The benefit of Illustrator, or working digitally, is that you rework drafts much more quickly + ultimately that we are creating files that can be shared and reproduced infinitely. SO IT'S COOL, to be here in the digital world.”

@kennamermaid

“I didn't have a good grasp on all the 'things' that go into developing a pdf pattern and this course (and all your help) made everything so much more approachable.”

@sierrasmakes

“I am REALLY enjoying this class & can't believe that I understand Illustrator already & feel super confident with it! Thank you!”

FAQs

  • Enrollment opens soon for the cohort starting September 2024.

    Plan to dedicate about 3-5 hours per week, but just like anything in life, the more time and energy you dedicate, the faster you’ll see results.

  • This program condenses what you would learn in a multi-year patternmaking degree program into just 4 months.

    It also covers material that few to no other patternmaking courses offer, such as size-inclusive patternmaking and grading and techniques for working digitally in Adobe Illustrator.

  • You can DM us on Instagram @confidentpattermaking or email us at info@confidentpatternmaking.com!

  • Teaching the course directly in Adobe Illustrator has many advantages over learning first on paper:

    – No need for a large, well-lit work surface. All you need is a computer.

    – Working digitally offers a precision that can be challenging to achieve on paper (especially when creating large shapes or creating precisely square and parallel lines.

    – It’s faster. Copying is instant (as opposed to time-consuming hand tracing) and modifications happen so fast that you’ll feel more free to play and experiment.

    – It’s the only software you need to package your patterns for sale as PDF downloads, should you choose to do so.

  • We’ll use predominately metric measurements throughout the course, but you’ll be fully supported and resourced for using Imperial measurements in your own work if you so choose.

  • Start by taking our free course, Illustrator Basics for Patternmaking. It’s packed with quality information and will help you get a sense of if the course is right for you.
